The food is good and the portion sizes are decent, but the prices have gone up 35% in the last 5 years, which is too much. The staff is typically friendly and helpful.I also don't like that S & G uses hydrogenated oil-based whipped topping (not cream) but calls it whipped cream. It used to get 4 stars from me, but it will have to change something to get the 4rh star back.
Fantastic breakfast spot. So much charm. Love it and the food was amazing. It's a little pricey but totally worth it.
Large portions of food, but not as flavorful for the price. Service was slow and difficult to get refills. Probably nicer on the weekdays when it's not so packed. Sunday brunch was very crowded. The menu prices listed in Google also don't match the actual menu prices.
Brilliant place serving superb breakfasts and unlimited coffee. Great place just off The Castro to watch the world go by
We were here once last May and had a very good experience. The cheesesteak was pretty good, and the service was great. Unfortunately, on our last visit, this wasn't the case. My chicken sandwich was pretty terrible. It was boring, and the chicken was just destroyed by overcooking. The biggest thing was that eggs were ordered at our table sunny-side up. The eggs came out with a very big chunk of very raw egg whites. I took them back to get fixed and the response was "so you didn't want sunny-side up, you wanted over-easy?" No. Instead of fixing it (or maybe instead of knowing how eggs are cooked), he responded with the equivalent of "you don't know what you're talking about." Sunny-side up means they aren't flipped, and the whites are barely set but they're still set. Don't act like we've made a mistake to cover up your lack of knowledge.Obviously, we were pretty disappointed by this second visit. There are too many good food options around here to bother going back.
Nice place to eat breakfast on a sunny morning. The coffee is very good and Squat & Gobble serves a wide variety of sweet and savory dishes. We ordered eggs benedict and chicken curry (Curry for breakfast!? Yes, curry for breakfast.). The curry was very good, the eggs were a little bland, but the potato wedges on the side compensated for that. Portions are large.Service was very fast. We were offered a complementary glass of lemon water, which was nice because it was a hot day. We'll probably go here again and try the crepe's, which is their specialty.
The crepe in the pesto chicken crepe was way to thick. It was basically a pancake. The chicken was dead and dried up old chicken, definitely not cooked to order. The Gobble Club sandwich was served on flat bread that was old and dried out. The bacon on the sandwich was cooked days before and was cold and tough. The fries that came with the sandwich were cold. All in all, it was our first time at the restaurant and the last. We talked about it and we agreed that their menu is too vast. They are trying to be everything and are not good at even one thing. They need to concentrate on a smaller subset of a menu and get better at it. In one word: TERRIBLE!
I like this place because of it's great dishes for a fair price. This is hard to find in this area. I had breakfast.
It was late when I came here for dinner, so there was no one here, but I very much enjoyed the savory salmon crepe. The menu is extensive and strangely diverse, and I am sufficiently intrigued to try their dessert crepes and their Asian menu, just because it's so unexpected.
My favorite restaurant in the Castro, and always my first stop when I get into town. The food is extraordinary, especially the potatoes. The cappuccino was great, right down to the last sip, and the salmon crepes were to die for. As always, the service was great, and fast. Always a pleasure to visit.
Great breakfast/brunch! The menu is reasonably priced for the amount of food they give, and the outdoor seating is really nice. You can't drink or even get served directly when you sit in the Parklet, but it's the best spot for people watching.Highly recommend the benedicts and crepes!
Great staff, excellent food and drinks
Cozy atmosphere. Indoor and outdoor seating. Super attentive service and really quick food that tastes amazing!
Food and setting were great. Service was friendly but slow.
Last meal in SF. Partner couldn't eat the chicken included with the eggs Benedict as it the consistency made her feel sick. Staff didn't care. My crepe was ok.
Thank you S&G for having a gluten free pasta option. The sauce was bland (hence 3 instead of 4 stars). I will return as your food is good quality and menu choices are solid.
This is a very popular brunch and lunch spot for dining in or takeaway. If you can get a seat outside it is great to enjoy a drink or food and watch the world go by. The food is very good. The menu is typical American style with plenty of choices. Highly recommend the Castro Omelette.
Good basic crepe, omelette and other foods in an order at counter, seat your self establishment. Staff is friendly and food is served quickly.
The fries were old and not cooked to order. So was the french toast! We were here at 3:30 and they close at 4, so it is possible they were giving us whatever was left!
The food here is great. But tell me something, why did I leave a tip for no service? When my food was done, I was told to come and get it myself. 🤔 if I’m paying a tip, I expect some food service. Is this a San Fran thing? Being from nyc that would of been a bad mistake on the restaurants side.
Had breakfast here twice and enjoyed a varied menu
Feb.2018 My gay buddies in Vancouver told me, 'you have to go there for breakfast!'. It was great. Warm enough to sit on the patio which was a bonus. Food was delicious, service by Hector was excellent.
Great location awesome service 👌
My fave place to eat brunch when in the city
Great food. Staff is amazing friendly. The pancakes are so delicious but you would hope that is the case from a place that does crepes
Great food and people watching.
Cheap wine tastes really good. That is why I like to go here. Their foods are gonna make you pleasure as all the food presentation are so adorable and looks very tasty. Salads, salmon, and wine were in my menu I just loved it after coming from a journey.
Is great food and good service....thank you
Awesome little place for brunch or dinner. They have brunch food to pastas to sandwiches. It's all so good.
Visited this place by random. But this place is great!! Fries are good!! So crispy and flavored!! Zorba the greek is something so different recipe . It’s very thin layered with roasted eggplant and mushrooms is giving strong taste
Great service, what happened to the potatoes are cut too small
I have been to every squat and gobble store in town. This is by far the worst. Somehow owners think that they can hire stuff without training them and then everything will just be OK. Not so. Somehow managers at the store think that customers owe them something. Customers have to. Employees and manager lie. When you point that this is not a way to run a restaurant they talk between themselves in their language and laugh. Somehow it’s funny. Really?
Excellent food, large portions. Crepes, pasta, breakfast, noodles, beer and wine. Outdoor seating available too.
Really pleasant and helpful service. The sidewalk space is really nicely decorated and was an unexpectedly calm oasis alongside a busy roadway.
The best breakfast/Dinner in SF , delicious food great menu they have something for everyone and if it's on the menu they make sure it's delicious. I can eat their every day .
Expensive food, compared to McDonald's. But, well worth it! What a fabulous breakfast! And SO many great choices! The breakfast comes out faster than anywhere in town and the restaurant is very clean. It has outdoor seating for those late spring and summer days. Carry a jacket if you are there in late hours.
While visiting in San Francisco in 2017, I went to eat here a couple times. It was great each time I ate there. If i visit San Francisco, which I hope I do, I will eat there again.
Lovely outdoor seating and delicious food. The staff were very helpful and kind.
Really nice people, great location, quality food, and super sunny nice front parklet seats. Great for an outdoor brunch in the Castro. Can't speak to the crepes but the omelettes are good with a corn tortilla option for gluten free people. I usually get the bourbon omelette and sub feta cheese. Coffee is also quality. All around a nice option with great sun and people watching. Check it out!
Excellent seafood linguini! Not too pricey.
Nice outdoor seating, friendly quick staff, and delicious food. This was seriously the best breakfast, and the best meal we probably had during our trip to SF.
Good brunch. Good outdoor seating. Good crispy potatoes and orange juice. While the food didn’t disappoint, it wasn’t come back again worthy either.
Good food and nice outside seating. Very pleasant.
Super helpful accomidating a big group and pretty outdoor seating
Such delicious food! This was the triple gobble with potatoes on the side
Super food and cool atmosphere ! Cheers
Love this place. Casual & Good food
Guys I love this place but it's time to review your menu. The outdoor tables are some of the best people watching in SF
Everything was phenomenal. And bottomless mimosas doesn't hurt either.
